The Beanit GmbH, located in the center of Berlin (Germany), was founded in the summer of 2018. The heart and soul of the company is founder, CEO, and developer Stefan Feuerhahn.

Stefan Feuerhahn has studied Computer Engineering at UCLA, Technical University of Berlin, and Polytech Montpellier from 1999 to 2006. He wrote his diploma thesis about interferences in Wi-Fi networks.

Following his studies, he worked for 10 years as a researcher, software developer, and team leader in the Smart Grid department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg (Germany). During this time, he founded the open-source platform openmuc.org and developed multiple popular Java implementations of common automation protocols such as IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850 and M-Bus.

In 2017 he received his PhD from the Technical University of Dortmund for his work on the evaluation of IEC 61850 for controlling distributed energy resources. The dissertation includes a comparison with alternative communication standards such as OPC UA.
